I think the author in 1 John asks of us to genuinely live out our faith. I think many times we just say, "I'm going to love my friends and live in community," and not make efforts to love those that are difficult or different. Sometimes I find myself as living in community as a cop-out and not as a way to follow Christ, I also think that this asks for us, as you have pointed out to not live out this journey and it become an idol in our lives. I've been wrestling with the idea of Christ's burden some this past week, and in some ways I don't feel as if its a hard burden in a sense, I'm finding difficulty in putting it on, afraid of not getting what I want.
