As I begin let me lay a brief history before make my comments. I was raised in christianity and study others works all my growing up years and on till I retired in '91. By training I am an engineer. so now for the comments: 1. we read others works as if they have a handle on knowledge instead of relying on our own study. 2. we compare one translation with another in hopes of finding the truth in God's word. 3. we search the writing of the ancients as if they were the enlightened ones. 4. In today's world we search the net in hope of finding hope. Returning to number 2, it was in '92 I began to try to learn Greek from a disk lesson. After many futile attempts which I failed miserly. I began to learn Greek on my own as if it was a street language of new country I had just entered. I began by copying down all the Greek words of the text. I then began to look up each word in lexicon till I had complete the entire New Testament. But alas as I started it was with an interlinear and I only corrected a few words that I found to be wrong such as doulos which means slave and few other words. The ending text was a comlete failure so I began again leaving out punction and grammar but alas as I learned the street language of the first century it also ended up on the shelf. I began again for the third time and this time it was to be only a lexical translation with out English form and grammar. This time I didn't rely on the works of other translation but used only the lexicon where I could and had to resort to dictionaries for some meanings. When I finished I found an entirely didn't message in the text than the one I had learn in chruch and at home because of the many translational errors. Like many words are not even translated but translitered meaning they were made correct in English and used without giving a meaning to them, such as appostle which means delegate and the list is very lengthy. Then there is the case of all the words just plain left out with no reason given. Then there is the case where the logic of the translators is just plain wrong in some translation Then there is the case where by the words choosen by the KJV were used as a meaning rather than using the Greek meaning for the words such as kingdom which isn't used in Greek but rather should be royality or royal ones. The results in 8 volumes of approximately 450 pages of lexical translation . The results are some what harder to read that other text but will give insights that I found no where else as I learned the Greek for myself. In conclusion I suggest that each pastor or teacher take the time to translated for themselves what is in the biblical text from the Greek and be able to use it as their source of information instead of relying on the efforts of others.
