Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. Τίς ἐστιν ὁ ψεύστης εἰ μὴ ὁ ἀρνούμενος ὅτι Ἰησοῦς οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ χριστός; οὗτος ἐστιν ὁ ἀντίχριστος, ὁ ἀρνούμενος τὸν πατέρα καιὶ τὸν υἱόν.

John defines the antichrist as “he who denies the Father and the Son.”

By this definition, I have been an antichrist many times over. Even those who are in-the-know (v. 21), often make the mistaking of denying the Father and the Son in favor of self. In reality, we should be doing the opposite: denying self in favor of Father and Son. This is, after all, what Christ demonstrated for us on the Cross—ultimate self-denial.
